Imperishable Goods

in Christian Living/Situational Hope

This is the Bible Minute.

"Normal" life can lull us into a temporal focus. But the valleys of life--sickness, death, divorce, job loss, job stress--those things remind us that heaven is our home. And they cause us to long for the certainty of eternity. That's the message for us today in 1 Peter 1:3-4.

"Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ! In his great mercy he has given us new birth into a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead, and into an inheritance that can never perish, spoil or fade--kept in heaven for you."

The life of the believer is a life of living hope. The heavenly inheritance that awaits us is "shielded by God's power." Peter says that what waits for us can never perish, can never spoil--it will never fade.
