Additional thoughts from today's Back to the Bible program...

May 13, 2008

One of the most unique things about the Bible is how it helps us to understand itself. The Bible often tells us about something that is very mysterious and a few verses later clears it all up by explaining what it means. Our study today is like that.

We're starting the second half of the book of Daniel today. And like the book of Revelation, these chapters leave many people scratching their heads.

But here's a wonderful principle for understanding your Bible: when you encounter something you don't understand, read a little further. Try it, and let us know how it works.

Jesus as Savior / Juses as Lord
Yes, I do know the difference between Jesus as my Savior (He died for my sins). He is my Lord, He guides my life, but leaves the freedom for me making the choices and Him the consequences of were they were good or bad.

My challenge is to live like He is Lord of my life. It is easy to be a hearer of the Word, but much harder to be a doer of the Word. This is especially true with my mind. My thoughts I am sure do not always please Him. Memorizing scripture helps, but I don\'t always think of Bible verses throughout the day. I need help in thinking on whatsoever is pure, lovely, and of a good report. Any suggestions on how to make Jesus Lord of my mind?

Miss
I'm very happy that Jesus is my Lord. Our world is kind of crazy and mixed up. I'm glad someone is in charge of my life, and I can ask Him for help with my decisions.

Do you know right from wrong? If you were thinking of doing something and wanted to know if it was right or wrong, how would you know? Most people rely on opinions, either their friends' opinions or their own.

But only God is righteous--which means "right"--only He truly knows what is right. So before you trust your own opinions or those of your friends, make sure you consult God.

This is one of the many reasons it's so important that you and I read our Bibles every day. Spend time with God in the Bible, get to know His mind, find out from Him what is right and what is wrong. How about you? Why do you think it's hard for some people to accept what God says is the right thing and the wrong thing to do?

Christian comedian Mark Lowry once declared that he had discovered what toes are for. "For finding furniture in the dark!" Of course everyone laughed because we can all relate to stumbling around in the dark. More than one toe has been damaged while its owner searched for a light switch.

Today on the radio we talked about what it means to walk in the light. Jesus said as long as He was in the world He was the light of the world. But now that He has returned to heaven, you and I are His lights.

What does this look like for you? What images or actions come to mind when you think about walking in the light? Tell me what you think below, and be sure to scroll down to see what others are saying.

about walking in the light
To do what Jesus would expect us to do, To stop and think, "what would Jesus do", if he was in my shoes, as hes is our Lord and Savior without sin! perfect in everyway, Jesus is our example, as we are examples for others.. That pretty well sets the stage !....

Stay in Gods word
I\'m still a sinner but striving to do better with the help of thy grace in Jesus. Stay in God's word no matter how much it hurts you to change.

As we look into these passages I think so much about how these things God tells us thru John's pen concerning our attitudes as believers and how our lives should appear to us and others. Yet thinking of the wheat and tares parable of the kingdom it can seem rather confusing at times as to who is a christian and who is not.

Do you know that many people today who claim to be saved from their sins couldn't tell you how they know it's true? They might point to "evidences" like, "I live a good life," or, "I'm not a bad person." There are even people out there who can point to a specific time and say, "I received Christ into my heart," yet be clueless as to the facts of the Gospel.

What really scares me about this is that the facts aren't hard to find. The Bible spells out clearly what salvation is, why it's required and how we can obtain it. The Bible tells you and me that salvation is free to those who accept it.

So, what is it? Why is it that so many people don't know the facts about their salvation? How can we help "educate" people?

a child of God
I used to listen to Back to the Bible when I was a student in Australia some 5 years ago. Today at lunch hour as I was trying to find something to help me with my Christian walk, I got your Web site!!!!! I hope it will go in a long way in inspiring, teaching and motivating me to seek God and to follow him... I think it's just the facts about salvation are so simple that they are so unbelievable, but that is how God made it.He loved us that much. (Serowe, Botswana, Africa)

Salvation
I used to think that people could lose their salvation until yesterday's program revealed the truth to me.
