We all know it's a blessing to read the Bible, but what if God told you that if you read one particular book of the Bible you'd be really blessed?
"How blessed is the one who reads aloud and those who hear the words of this prophecy and obey what is written in it, for the time is near!" (Revelation 1:3).
Who doesn't want to be really blessed by God? Yet, the devil has done a bang-up job of making believers view the Book of Revelation as unbelievably mysterious, an end-of-the-world book of prophetic symbolism that's too hard for the average person to grasp.
God doesn't want us to live out our very short days on this planet loving this world and the things of the world so much that we stop longing for "His appearing." Nor does He want us to despise this world so much that all we can think about is slipping these surly bonds of earth and escaping to the "Sweet Bye and Bye."
No doubt you've heard that expression, "It's not about the destination--it's about the journey." The truth of the matter is, the destination does matter and it matters a lot! Why? Because it's been my lifelong observation that the Christians who [eagerly] wait and [earnestly] hope and [passionately] love His glorious appearing (our destination) act completely differently than those who do not!
Eagerly Waiting ... What are you waiting for?
It's important to always keep in mind that the word waiting in the Greek is not some passive activity. Rather, the Greek word for wait is very emphatic: apekdeehoma which means "eagerly awaiting"--implying a certain unsettledness or a feeling that our present circumstances are only temporary. Are you eagerly awaiting that day? I urge you to use this time of eager waiting to gain ground for the cause of Christ!
Passionately loving ... Love the One you're [not yet] with ...
What about love? At the close of his last charge to Timothy, the apostle Paul writes, "Henceforth there is laid up for me the crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous judge, will award to me at that Day; and not only to me, but also to all who have loved his appearing" (2 Timothy 4:8, emphasis added).
Paul was extremely confident of "the crown of righteousness" that He'd receive in heaven.Only those Christians who love His appearing will be awarded a crown of righteousness at the Judgment Seat of Christ.
Earnestly hoping ... that we shall be like Him.
Finally there's hope. But for the unsaved, someday that hope will come to a screeching end.
Not so for the believing, waiting [eagerly watching] "love sick" and hope-filled Christian who is "Looking for the blessed hope and appearing of the glory of the great God and our Savior Jesus Christ."
Reading, studying and meditating on the Book of Revelation will help keep that "blessed hope" gloriously alive ... enabling you to live the rest of your days on high alert as you anticipate His glorious appearing.
So, I invite you to eagerly wait with me, passionately love with me, and earnestly hope with me until our Lord returns. And join me in helping others understand the Book of Revelation so they can do the same. Enjoy the blessing of reading the Revelation.
