Create Your Stewardship Legacy

by Bryon Swanson

A Christian heritage…a personal commitment to meaningful ministry…an attorney with professional expertise…a warm smile and hearty handshake that come straight from the heart. These are just some of the things that characterize Steve Nickel, who has served the Lord at Back to the Bible for 22 years through the ministry of Stewardship and now as the president of the Back to the Bible Foundation.

Steve grew up in Springfield, Missouri, and traveled in 45 states and all across Canada as part of the Nickel Family Singers in the 1960s and early 1970s. "Most years we did 200 concerts in churches, schools, nursing homes and camps," Steve reflects, "And growing up in a family of seven boys and one girl, I guess meeting and working with people comes naturally. I really love that!"

With degrees in business and law, Steve now applies his expertise and talents in helping people be the best stewards they can be for their own benefit, their family, and to reach a lost world.

"As an attorney who specializes in planned giving and estate planning, I have the opportunity to help people accomplish their objectives--facilitating their vision of good stewardship," Steve said. "I listen carefully, gather all of the facts, and provide meaningful solutions for their needs."

"One of my happiest privileges is to help people turn what would have gone to taxes into gifts that help change people's lives forever," Steve says. Income tax, estate tax, capital gains tax-the Back to the Bible Foundation has solutions. Through creative use of charitable trusts, gift annuities, and wealth replacement plans, the financial and estate issues of donors and their families can be effectively addressed.

As investments grow in value and businesses succeed, more people than ever are considering leaving a legacy in the form of a private family foundation. The costs to set up and administer private foundations can be considerable, however. Add to that an excise tax on investment earnings and substantial reporting requirements--the Back to the Bible Foundation can eliminate these disadvantages through a donor advised fund. The donors and their successors, if desired, can request distributions from their "Family Foundation Account" to their favorite organizations according to the donors' desires. Some donors also do their year-end giving through donor advised funds, determining the amount and timing of the distributions later.

Ultimately, people are using the Back to the Bible Foundation to "reach the world through eternal investments." May we serve you so that you can do the same?
