Family Quest
Position a wastebasket across the room. Instruct your child to throw a soft ball into the basket. (Tip: Make it impossible to complete this task the first time.) Give him a second chance, a third and so on. With each attempt, make reaching the goal easier.
Talk It Out
· How did you feel when I gave you a second chance. . .and a third
chance?
· Did you know that God gives us second chances too? Listen to how He
helped Peter start again. (Read John 18:25–27; 21:15–19.)
· How does it make you feel to know that God gives us a fresh start?
Parent-Child Connection
Too many kids mistakenly believe that the Lord doesn’t want them to be honest about their secrets and struggles. They think He will be upset if they tell Him about the bad things they’ve thought or done. But if God already knows everything about us, even our secret sins can’t make Him stop loving us. Tell your child this: “Our Lord is the God of second chances! He wants you to experience His love, forgiveness, and power in all areas of your life. Pour out your heart to Him. Share the bad stuff you’ve thought or done—that’s called confession—and He will forgive you.”
Talk to God
As you pray, encourage your child to (1) thank Jesus for being so big and mighty and (2) ask the Lord to help him appreciate what He has done for him.
