Family Quest
Before you start this lesson, get a children’s book that illustrates different occupations. Spend this session talking about jobs, plans for the future. . .and God. Flip through the book and examine photos of different professions. Say this: “When you grow up, you can accomplish anything you put your mind to. But it’s important that we do exactly what God wants us to do.”
Talk It Out
· How do we figure out what God wants us to do? (Answer: By praying, talking to mature Christian believers like our pastor, and reading the Bible.)
· Why is Bible reading an important way to learn what God wants?
· Why must we put God’s will first—before what we want?
Parent-Child Connection
Sometimes it’s difficult to know God’s will. We get overwhelmed by our options and ask too many “what if” questions. Thinking about our future can be exciting. Or it can be stressful. Help your kids to know that we don’t have to have all the answers. Doing God’s will begins with doing what we already know to do. We are to pursue God through prayer, Bible reading, and obedience to the Spirit. Through this process, He will guide us day by day. That is what God wants from us.
Talk to God
As you pray, encourage your child to (1) thank Jesus for being so big and mighty and (2) ask the Lord to help him appreciate what He has done for him.
