When he had finished washing their feet, he put on his clothes and returned to his place. “Do you understand what I have done for you?” he asked them. “You call me ‘Teacher’ and ‘Lord,’ and rightly so, for that is what I am. Now that I, your LORD and Teacher, have washed your feet, you also should wash one another’s feet. I have set you an example that you should do as I have done for you.”
Family Quest
Pull out a washbasin, soap, and towels and follow Christ’s example: scrub each other’s feet. As you do this, talk about the example our Lord and Teacher set for us.

· Think about the teachers you know. What makes them so good at what they do?
· Jesus teaches us many things. Can you think of five things He wants us to learn?
Parent-Child Connection
After washing His disciples’ feet, Jesus said, “Now that I, your LORD and Teacher, have washed your feet, you also should wash one another’s feet. I have set you an example that you should do as I have done for you” (John 13:14–15). Throughout the New Testament, Jesus often teaches us to “go and do likewise”; to never keep His lessons to ourselves, but to imitate them; to follow His example and share them with others. And today’s lesson gives us a perfect demonstration of what God considers to be real greatness. It’s not found in world leaders, professional athletes, or Hollywood superstars. It’s not even found in the great spiritual leaders of our time. These aren’t the ones whom God considers to be great. Instead, according to the Lord, “whoever wants to become great among you must be your servant, and whoever wants to be first must be your slave—just as the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve” (Matthew 20:26–28). This is the key to greatness. This is what our Teacher wants us to live out in our walk and our witness. Encourage your children to take to heart the Teacher’s lessons. . .and go and do likewise.
Talk to God
As you pray, encourage your child to (1) thank Jesus for being the ultimate Teacher and (2) ask the Lord to help him “go and do” what Jesus teaches in the Bible.
