Ordinary Heroes, Extraordinary Impact

From: Words That Heal

By: Michael Ross & Brian Doyle

"Then the King will say to those on his right, 'Come, you who are blessed by my Father, inherit the Kingdom prepared for you from the creation of the world. For I was hungry, and you fed me. I was thirsty, and you gave me a drink. I was a stranger, and you invited me into your home. I was naked, and you gave me clothing. I was sick, and you cared for me. I was in prison, and you visited me.'"

Matthew 25:34-36

A tender word spoken at the right moment, a smile, a simple act of kindness--these are the marks of a true hero. No need for dramatic feats of strength. No need to outrun a speeding bullet or leap over a skyscraper in a single bound. If you're a Christ-follower, you're already empowered with supernatural wonder: The Holy Spirit. It's Christ in you and the outpouring of His love through your words, your warmth, and your walk that will rescue humanity from evil. It's the Hero reflected in your face that will open their eyes to eternity.

The two main centers of obedience to God are your heart and your mouth. That's why David prayed, "May the words of my mouth and the meditation of my heart be pleasing to you, O LORD, my rock and my redeemer" (Psalm 19:14). He knew that if he could just let his Heavenly Father take control of his heart and his mouth, he could live a holy life; a life that would be a testimony to God's glory and grace.

Questions:

Are you sharing God's love with those around you? What do people see when they look at your life? Humility, kindness, goodness--a reflection of Christ's face?

Does your speech encourage and empower--or does it wound and destroy? Do you communicate hope, or do you occasionally spray others with hateful graffiti: insults and put-downs?
