Family Quest
Using toy soldiers, stuffed animals, and blocks, play a game that drives home the message about peace. Set up two warring tribes and place a wall between them. Retell Ephesians 2:11–18. Emphasize that Jesus destroyed a “dividing wall of hostility” between God and us. Break down the wall together, explaining that Jesus has given us peace. . .and eternal life with Him!
Talk It Out
· How is sin like a big wall between God and us?
· How did Jesus destroy that wall?
· Read Colossians 3:15. How do we let the peace of Christ rule in our
hearts?
· Is there anyone you need to make peace with?
Parent-Child Connection
Some kids may have a difficult time understanding the symbolism of a “dividing wall.” If your child is more of a literal thinker, help him to imagine a physical wall that divides us from God. The Family Quest above will help with this. But if your child’s mind is already full of word pictures, help him identify some of the ways that we humans can build the walls that divide. But most of all, conclude your conversation by reassuring your child that God is our Lord of peace. It doesn’t matter how big, wide, strong, or long the walls are that divide us from Him because He can overcome them all. He can give us the only true peace!
Talk to God
As you pray, encourage your child to (1) thank Jesus for being so big and mighty and (2) ask the Lord to help him appreciate what He has done for him.
