But my life is worth nothing to me unless I use it for finishing the work assigned me by the Lord Jesus--the work of telling others the Good News about the wonderful grace of God.
Scripture instructs us to reflect God's love to others. We must remember that it's not our own reflection of love that people will see; it is God's love in us. What's more, real faith demonstrates to the world real love. And we learn what real faith and love are by spending time with Jesus in prayer and Bible study.
It is because of our relationship with Jesus that our other friendships can be so close and meaningful. It is because of His encouragement to us that we can encourage other people. Christ's generosity toward us makes each one of us want to be generous to others. His compassion, kindness, love, and faithfulness to you and me can spur us to "go and do likewise."
Questions:
Do others see Jesus in your words and deeds? (Ponder your answer.) When does it come easy? When is it hard?
To get a general sense of what God's love looks like in everyday life, meditate on 1 Corinthians 13 and 1 John. What steps will you take to show Christ in your words and deeds?
