Devotions, Tips, and Activities

By: Michael and Tiffany Ross

“So do not fear, for I am with you; do not be dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you and help you; I will uphold you with my righteous right hand.”

ISAIAH 41:10

Family Quest

Challenge your child to a tug-of-war competition. It’s you versus her. First, mark the floor (preferably a carpeted area) with tape. Then hand the end of a rope to your child. The competition begins. . .and ends with you overpowering her. Next, call in the troops. Invite your spouse (and other children) to help your child. This time they overpower you.

Talk It Out

· During round one, why did I win?

· During round two, what gave you strength?

· How does God give us strength when life gets hard?

Parent-Child Connection

Tell your child this: “Spiritual weakness and constant struggles with issues that God says are off-limits—such as lying, cheating, stealing, behaving rudely, acting selfish—are almost always symptoms of a bigger problem in our lives. The real problem is often a heart problem. And the only way to fix a mixed-up, sin-filled heart is by having a daily truth encounter. That means spending time in the Word and in prayer. If we combine Bible reading with prayer, we have a powerful weapon—an invisible sword, so to speak—that can fend off any deception and defeat any struggle that threatens to trap us. This is ultimate strength training!”

Talk to God

As you pray, encourage your child to (1) thank Jesus for being so big and mighty and (2) ask the Lord to help him appreciate what He has done for him.
