This is the Bible Minute.
Some approach prayer with a list of imperative sentences. "God, I want you to do this. In Jesus' name. Amen."
So then, is praying "your will be done" a copout? Not according to Jesus. In the most intense prayer of his life Jesus emotionally expressed his desire, but listen to how He finished His prayer in Matthew 26:39:
"Going a little farther, he fell with his face to the ground and prayed, 'My Father, if it is possible, may this cup be taken from me. Yet not as I will, but as you will.'"
Prayer is a conversation with the Heavenly Father. I can, and I should, express my personal desires just like Jesus did. And, just like Jesus did, I hand over my desires to the perfect will of God. That's called obedience.
