In all thy ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy paths. Proverbs 3:6, KJV
After thirteen years of being a stay-at-home mom, Amy reentered the work world. Though her dream was to become a nurse, she wanted to be a mom even more, and she loved the time spent at home with her children during their formative years.
When her youngest child was five, Amy began taking night classes for a nursing degree. She had to complete several prerequisite classes before she could even apply for the nursing program at the local community college.
Looking back, Amy sees God in every bit of the process. "He put all the right people in my life at just the right time for everything to fall perfectly in place. He brought a woman into my life, Maureen, whose son happened to play baseball with my middle son. She didn't know it, but Maureen was one of the managers in the Emergency Department at the local hospital. She told Amy about an opening for a job that she could easily do while continuing her nursing degree and get some firsthand experience with helping patients.
Fast-forward two years and Amy found herself entering the nursing program. It was during this time that she had to change her work schedule from weekdays to weekends.
On her way to work the first weekend, Amy began to cry. "I prayed and asked God if I was truly doing the right thing," she says. "I just hated the fact that I'd be missing church. Every time the doors were open, we were there. This was something that had begun in my childhood and was now important to me as an adult."
Amy's tears and prayers continued on her way to work, and by the time she pulled into the parking lot, God had given her that overwhelming peace that comes only from Him. "I knew He had provided the job, the hours, and the acceptance into the program. He was with me the entire time. I was confident in knowing that the path I was taking was exactly where He wanted me to be."
Fast-forward another two years and Amy found herself with the degree for which she'd worked so hard.
"I serve a God who is so totally in control of details that He provided a job that got me off weekends the very week after graduation! None of this would have been possible without Him," she says. "Through the entire process, He consistently increased my confidence in Him."
