Do you know what that name Jesus means? I'm Ron Moore with the Bible Minute.
In Matthew 1:21 an angel explains to Joseph that Mary "will give birth to a son, and you are to give him the name Jesus because he will save his people from their sins."
In Hebrew the name was "Joshua." In Greek the form changed to "Jesus." But in both languages the meaning was the same--"the Lord saves."
Today, people want "their savior" to get them a job, to fix their marriage, and so on. But each reason mentioned above is a symptom of a root problem. We need a Savior to save us from our sins. That's the eternal salvation that Jesus came to give us. Once our eternal salvation is in place, we can trust him with all the temporal issues of life.
