God's Chosen Witnesses

Published 1/23/20

Read Luke 2:36-38

"There was also a prophet, Anna, the daughter of Penuel, of the tribe of Asher. She was very old; she had lived with her husband seven years after her marriage, and then was a widow until she was eighty-four She never left the temple but worshiped night and day, fasting and praying. Coming up to them at that very moment, she gave thanks to God and spoke about the child to all who were looking forward to the redemption of Jerusalem."

Reflect

Take a moment to think about your testimony. How can you use your story to witness for Jesus?

These two godly servants, Simeon and Anna, played no great role on the stage of Bible history. Some might even call them "bit" players, yet God chose them to be witnesses. They were chosen to confirm what had been spoken generations before. It was no accident that they were in the right place at the right time. They were expecting God, and when he called, they heard his voice.

Simeon and Anna's hearts were fixed on something they could not see. Their attitude was that of worship as they waited on God's timing. Until the moment that Simeon saw the baby Jesus, he lived by faith alone. The joy he expressed as he sang praises in the temple court was that of a man who had seen a promise fulfilled right before his eyes. Until he saw Jesus, his mind was brimming with knowledge about the Chosen One, but to see Jesus in the flesh was the fulfillment of all he had believed and hoped for. Simeon was so satisfied with the vision of Jesus that he experienced total peace. One glance had given him all he needed to move on to his heavenly reward.

Pray

Lord, please give me the courage to be Your witness. Amen.
