Tune in the Holy Spirit

Published 1/27/20

Read John 14:26

"But the Helper, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in my name, he will teach you all things and bring to your remembrance all that I have said to you."

Reflect

What is the Holy Spirit teaching you?

We need to live expectantly, tuned in to the Spirit. When we seek God, we learn to recognize the voice of the Holy Spirit. We become sensitive to that prompting and are available when God calls us to witness His handiwork. We can find comfort when we are tired or impatient to see those promises take place. The Holy Spirit can show us things that others might not see or understand, just like when He promised Simeon that he would see the Messiah before he died. But we are unlikely to hear that voice unless we prepare ourselves to do so by seeking God. The Lord becomes real and our hearts become expectant as God provides a fresh vision of Himself in our quiet times with Him. Just as He did for Simeon and Anna, God will kindle the joy in your soul when the knowledge about Him is transformed into relationship with Him. It can be like seeing Him for the very first time.

When we eagerly look for God, we may find Him in unexpected moments and even in places we've been hundreds of times. The Bible shares many promises that center around our daily lives, but we can also look forward to the eternal promise He gave each of us. He is coming again. That's a great hope. Just as the Holy Spirit promised Simeon that the Messiah would surely come, we have been promised that our Savior will return again for those who are looking for Him.

Let us be among those who say, "Behold, this is our God; we have waited for Him, and He will save us. This is the Lord; we have waited for Him; we will be glad and rejoice in His salvation" (Isaiah 25:9 NKJV).

Expectancy. It's an attitude of the heart.

Pray

Lord, help me to be tuned in to the Holy Spirit. Show me how to live expectantly, awaiting Your return. Amen.
