Freedom

Published 8/4/19

By: Michael and Tiffany Ross

Jesus replied, “Very truly I tell you, everyone who sins is a slave to sin. . . . So if the Son sets you free, you will be free indeed.”

Family Quest

Tell your kids about a time you did something and knew it was not pleasing to God. Then ask if they have done something they wished they hadn’t done—something they felt was wrong. Explain that Jesus sets us free by forgiving what we did wrong and helping us not to do it again.

Talk It Out

· How can we become “slaves” to doing wrong things?

· How does it make you feel to know that Jesus can give you freedom from doing wrong?

· What is one thing you’d like to not do again?

Parent-Child Connection

God offers us freedom. Even when we mess up, He will forgive us. When we choose to try to live without His guidance, we will get off track and fall short of the life we were meant to live. When we try to manipulate the truth for our own benefit, we become slaves to our twisted ways. The only path to freedom is by the mercy of God. Using examples of how sin drags us down is the best way to explain to your kids that the better alternative is to trust God and His ways.

Talk to God

As you pray, encourage your child to (1) thank Jesus for being so big and mighty and (2) ask the Lord to help him appreciate what He has done for him.
