The LORD our God is merciful and forgiving.

Family Quest

Grab a dictionary and look up the word merciful. Talk about how we need God’s mercy in our lives because we aren’t perfect. His love for us is so great that He keeps giving us chance after chance. He knows our hearts and knows when we are really trying to love Him.

Talk It Out

· What does the word compassion mean?

· Why does God love us so much?

· How can we help others enjoy God’s amazing love?

Parent-Child Connection

“Have mercy” is an old saying that is usually reserved for little old ladies. Your kids may never have even heard this expression. But it is a reminder that we have to intentionally extend mercy to others. For God, however, compassion in in His very nature. And when we show this same type of love and mercy to others, it is a small representation of how God loves us. Kids live in a world where they learn early to protect themselves and their belongings. It’s not going to come naturally to them to extend mercy to someone who may have done them wrong. But it’s a good time to begin teaching them this valuable character trait.

Talk to God

As you pray, encourage your child to (1) thank Jesus for His abounding love and (2) ask the Lord to help him show more compassion to others.
