101 Ways to Strengthen the Parent‐Child Connection

Devotions, Tips, and Activities

By Michael and Tiffany Ross

"May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace as you trust in him, so that you may overflow with hope by the power of the Holy Spirit."

Family Quest

Discuss the future. Take turns listing ideas and events you are looking forward to. Include whether or not you think your plans for the future will come true.

Talk It Out

· Read Romans 15:1–4. What does this passage say about hope?

· Is God part of your future plans?

· How can God be the source of your hope?

Parent-Child Connection

As Christians, our hope should be anchored in a growing relationship with Jesus—not in how much money we have, how many “toys” we’ve amassed, or how popular we are. Spend some time talking to your child about the essence of true success, real happiness, and lasting hope. Explain that success in God’s eyes means giving up everything for Him in order to gain what He has in store for us. It’s sometimes true that in doing so some believers may never achieve what they always dreamed they’d become. However, when we fully surrender our lives to God, He often returns those dreams and talents in bigger, grander ways than we could ever imagine. Knowing, serving, and following Jesus are the keys to success and the foundation of lasting hope.

Talk to God

As you pray, encourage your child to (1) thank Jesus for being in control of our future and (2) express to the Lord her own hopes and desires for the future.
