Seeing Jesus in Others

Published 1/20/20

Read Matthew 25:34-36

"Then the King will say to those on his right, 'Come, you who are blessed by my Father, inherit the kingdom prepared for you from the foundation of the world. For I was hungry and you gave me food, I was thirsty and you gave me drink, I was a stranger and you welcomed me, I was naked and you clothed me, I was sick and you visited me, I was in prison and you came to me.'"

Reflect

What are some ways that you have encountered Christ in the lives of others?

My friend Kay sees Jesus in the faces of children who are battling cancer. She visits them in the hospital playroom. As she helps these kids create art projects to take their minds off painful treatments, she encounters God in amazing and unforgettable ways. My friend Tony who volunteers at a daily breakfast for homeless people encounters Jesus again and again as he serves pancakes and sausage and gives food baskets away. Mary Ann sees glimpses of the love of Christ in foster mothers she works with in Child S.H.A.R.E., a ministry to provide homes for neglected children.

What unexpected places might you see Jesus in your world? What are the things you see in your community or world that break your heart or you can't stop thinking about? Perhaps it could be while working with children. Jesus put a little child in his arms and said, "Anyone who welcomes a little child like this on my behalf welcomes me" (Mark 9:37 NLT). It could be on a mission trip or in a nursing home. Whatever it is, this may be a key to where God is leading you to serve others and in the process see anew the King of kings, who took up his towel to serve His disciples and poured out His life that we--and the whole world--might not perish but have eternal life.

Pray

Lord, help me to see You in the faces of those I encounter at home, in the workplace, at school ... everywhere I go. Amen.
