READ
1 John 1:5-6
5 This is the message we heard from Jesus and now declare to you: God is light, and there is no darkness in him at all. 6 So we are lying if we say we have fellowship with God but go on living in spiritual darkness; we are not practicing the truth.
The main message John conveyed was that “God is light, and there is no darkness in him at all.” John is contrasting spiritual light with spiritual darkness. Before salvation, unbelievers live in spiritual darkness. After trusting in Jesus as Savior believers are to practice truth that reflects spiritual light. To live like unbelievers is not “practicing the truth.”
REFLECT
Think of the changes that have taken place in your life after you trusted Jesus as Savior. You have gone from walking in darkness to walking in light because “God is light.”
RESPOND
One of the greatest testimonies is a changed life. No one can argue with this. Share with your friend the differences you have seen in your life. Read together Ephesians 5:7-9 that contrasts the unsaved life with the life in Christ.
