READ
1 John 5:21
21 Dear children, keep away from anything that might take God’s place in your hearts.
The apostle John began 1 John by saying in verse 1, We proclaim to you the one who existed from the beginning, whom we have heard and seen. We saw him with our own eyes and touched him with our own hands. He is the Word of life. He concludes his letter by urging his readers to keep away from anything that would be an idol. This has to do with that which is seen in contrast to God who is not seen.
REFLECT
Is there anything or anyone more precious to you than the true God? That is what John would call an idol.
RESPOND
Much has been covered in thinking about what the apostle John wrote in the five chapters of 1 John. Talk with your disciple about what has been learned and how both of you can be stronger believers serving the true God.
