1 John 2:1-2
1 My dear children, I am writing this to you so that you will not sin. But if anyone does sin, we have an advocate who pleads our case before the Father. He is Jesus Christ, the one who is truly righteous. 2 He himself is the sacrifice that atones for our sins—and not only our sins but the sins of all the world.
John appeals to believers as a father with his children. His concern is that they not sin, but he knows they are not perfect so he tells them the remedy when they do. They have an advocate, the Lord Jesus Himself, who acts as an attorney before the heavenly Father. Jesus has satisfied the holy demands of the Father by dying on the cross. He did this for “all the world” but it is only applied to each person as the individual believes in Him as Savior.
REFLECT
Think of how blessed you are to have Jesus acting as your attorney pleading your case before the Father. Jesus met all the demands when He died in your place on the cross.
RESPOND
Do you see the importance of sharing this good news with a friend? A new believer may not understand this and be concerned when something is done that is not pleasing to the heavenly Father. You can point your friend to this passage of Scripture.
