READ
1 John 2:3-6
3 And we can be sure that we know him if we obey his commandments. 4 If someone claims, “I know God,” but doesn’t obey God’s commandments, that person is a liar and is not living in the truth. 5 But those who obey God’s word truly show how completely they love him. That is how we know we are living in him. 6 Those who say they live in God should live their lives as Jesus did.
God knows whether someone has trusted in Jesus as Savior. The only way people can know it, however, is by the way the person lives. This passage reveals that believers in Jesus should model their lives after Jesus. Those who obey God’s Word, the Bible, show they love Jesus. This reveals to others that they are Christ-followers. What commandments is Jesus referring to?
REFLECT
Consider the question: If you were arrested for being a Christian, would there be enough evidence to convict you? What are others seeing in your life?
RESPOND
With your friend, read Ephesians 4:28-32 that tells how a believer should live. Use this as a check list to see how each of you is doing.
