1 John – Week 2 – Day 3

READ 

1 John 2:7-8 

7 Dear friends, I am not writing a new commandment for you; rather it is an old one you have had from the very beginning. This old commandment—to love one another—is the same message you heard before. 8 Yet it is also new. Jesus lived the truth of this commandment, and you also are living it. For the darkness is disappearing, and the true light is already shining. 

The commandment to which John referred was an old one in that it was known in the Old Testament and during the lifetime of Jesus on earth. It is new, as John was writing, because it had been demonstrated in the life of Jesus who gave His life for others. The “true light” was now shining in the believers who formerly had been living in spiritual darkness.  

REFLECT 

As a believer, you are to let the life of Jesus be replicated through you. The Holy Spirit lives in the believer to make this possible. 

RESPOND 

Talk with your friend about the importance of others seeing Christ in you. Read Colossians 1:27 that tells this truth. This was unknown in the Old Testament so it was called “a mystery,” but it is revealed in the New Testament.
