READ
1 John 2:9-11
9 If anyone claims, “I am living in the light,” but hates a fellow believer, that person is still living in darkness. 10 Anyone who loves a fellow believer is living in the light and does not cause others to stumble. 11 But anyone who hates a fellow believer is still living and walking in darkness. Such a person does not know the way to go, having been blinded by the darkness.
Do you know of anyone who claims to be a believer in Jesus and yet hates a fellow believer? The passage reveals such a person is still living in darkness. Those who love other believers demonstrate they are the disciples of Jesus (see John 13:35). One who claims to be a believer but hates other believers has “been blinded by the darkness.”
REFLECT
Make sure your heart is right toward other believers. It is not necessary to agree with them on everything, but it is important to love them in spite of the differences.
RESPOND
You and your friend should be involved in a Bible-teaching church. Spend time praying together about the group with whom you fellowship that they would love one another in spite of any differences.
