1 John 2:14
14 I have written to you who are God’s children because you know the Father. I have written to you who are mature in the faith because you know Christ, who existed from the beginning. I have written to you who are young in the faith because you are strong. God’s word lives in your hearts, and you have won your battle with the evil one.
John continues to write about those whom he is addressing. Because they know the father, they are referred to as “God’s children.” Some are mature in the faith and some are young in the faith; that is, they had recently trusted in Jesus as Savior. John assures those who are young in the faith that “God’s word lives” in their hearts and they have won the battle with the evil one; that is, the devil.
REFLECT
No length of time is given to know who is a mature believer and a young believer. Those who have been believers long enough to sit under good Bible teaching to learn more about the Scriptures surely have knowledge and life experiences to pass on to those younger in the faith.
RESPOND
Talk with your friend about some of the truths you have learned by sitting under good Bible teaching. Then talk about those you can share these truths with who are younger in the faith. Read together Luke 12:48 to see that to those who have been given much, much is required.
