1 John 2:18-19
18 Dear children, the last hour is here. You have heard that the Antichrist is coming, and already many such antichrists have appeared. From this we know that the last hour has come. 19 These people left our churches, but they never really belonged with us; otherwise they would have stayed with us. When they left, it proved that they did not belong with us.
The apostle John warns believers about the spiritual conditions in the last days. There will eventually be a person known as “the Antichrist” but there are already many little antichrists. In the first century the preposition “anti” primarily meant “instead of” as well as “against.” They want to be “instead of” as well as “against” Christ. Some claim to be believers but when they reject the teaching of the apostles, now found in the Bible, this indicates they do not have salvation.
REFLECT
How has it been with you since you said you believed in Jesus? Does your heart respond positively to the teaching of the Word of God? If so, that is the indication of being a believer.
RESPOND
The evidences of being a believer are indicated by the way a person lives. Read Matthew 7:14-16 to see what Jesus said about this.
