READ
1 John 2:22-23
22 And who is a liar? Anyone who says that Jesus is not the Christ. Anyone who denies the Father and the Son is an antichrist. 23 Anyone who denies the Son doesn’t have the Father, either. But anyone who acknowledges the Son has the Father also.
Do you know of those today who do not believe that Jesus is the Christ? They are denying that Jesus is the Messiah born into the line of Judah to be the Savior of Israel and of all those who believe in Him. John says those who deny Jesus are liars. Some today deny Jesus’ “deity,” which is denying that He is God. John makes clear that anyone who denies the Son also denies the Father. If you believe in the Son, however, you also have the Father.
REFLECT
Consider how the Son and the Father are linked: they are part of the trinity—three persons in one godhead—along with the Holy Spirit. To deny the divinity of any of the three persons is to deny the others.
RESPOND
John says they are liars who deny the Lord Jesus Christ. Read John 8:44 to see who is the father of lies. Discuss with your disciple what you have learned so far from the second chapter of 1 John.
