1 John – Week 5 – Day 5

READ 

1 John 3:14-15 

14 If we love our brothers and sisters who are believers, it proves that we have passed from death to life. But a person who has no love is still dead. 15 Anyone who hates another brother or sister is really a murderer at heart. And you know that murderers don’t have eternal life within them. 

How does one know if a person has passed from spiritual death to spiritual life? It is whether he loves other believers. Today’s world seems to be filled with those who hate others. John points out that one who hates is really at his heart a murderer. The sobering thing about this is that such a person does not possess eternal life.  

REFLECT 

Think what it will be like in heaven for believers in Jesus. They will all love each other. You will love others and they will love you. That is a significant difference from this world.  

RESPOND 

Remind your friend that everyone will be in heaven who has trusted in Jesus alone for salvation. That is, it is not a matter of believing in Jesus plus something else to make one right with God; it is in Jesus alone. Heaven will not be populated by just one church group or one culture, or even those who believe all the same religious rituals. It will be everyone who has trusted in Jesus as Savior. Read again John 3:16-18 for the requirements for entering heaven.
