1 John – Week 7 – Day 4

1 John 4:9-10 

9 God showed how much he loved us by sending his one and only Son into the world so that we might have eternal life through him. 10 This is real love—not that we loved God, but that he loved us and sent his Son as a sacrifice to take away our sins. 

As mentioned previously, love can only be observed when it is demonstrated by actions. You may love God now, but notice that Jesus died for lost mankind before love was expressed to Him. The heavenly Father showed what “real love” is by sending His only Son to die for us. Jesus’ sacrifice on the cross took away the sins of anyone who will believe in Him as Savior. 

REFLECT 

Ponder how much God loved you by sending His only Son to die on the cross for you. Does this give you a greater passion to share God’s love with others?

Read Romans 8:38-39 to see how great the love of God is. Talk with your friend about the need to share this love with others and how you might do that.
