READ
1 John 4:18-19
18 Such love has no fear, because perfect love expels all fear. If we are afraid, it is for fear of punishment, and this shows that we have not fully experienced his perfect love. 19 We love each other because he loved us first.
The kind of love John is describing is the kind that dispels all fear. God has demonstrated His love for us by giving us His Son to die for us. This should motivate all believers to serve Him out of love, not duty. Why do we love each other? It is not because they deserve our love. It is because God loved us first, which motivates us to love others.
REFLECT
When you think of someone who seems difficult to love, remember that God loved you first. That will motivate you to love the difficult person.
RESPOND
Talk with your friend about some people you may find it difficult to love. Read Ephesians 4:31-32 to see you are to forgive others as God has forgiven you. Spend time praying together, asking God to enable you to love those who seem difficult to love.
