READ
1 John 5:1-2
1 Everyone who believes that Jesus is the Christ has become a child of God. And everyone who loves the Father loves his children, too. 2 We know we love God’s children if we love God and obey his commandments.
Notice that a person does not become a child of God by loving others; one becomes a child of God by believing in Jesus Christ as Savior. The love of God will follow salvation but loving others is not the means of it. If one loves the Father, it is logical that such a believer will love the Father’s children. The evidence of loving God’s children is loving Him and obeying His instructions.
REFLECT
Think about your life and what others are noticing about you. Do they see a person who reveals the love of God by loving His children?
RESPOND
Are you and your disciple faithfully attending a local church where you can evidence loving God’s children? Some say they love God but do not attend a local assembly where they could love fellow believers. Read Hebrews 10:23-25 that urges believers to gather with other believers.
