READ
1 Thessalonians 1:1
1 This letter is from Paul, Silas, and Timothy. We are writing to the church in Thessalonica, to you who belong to God the Father and the Lord Jesus Christ. May God give you grace and peace.
Of all of Paul’s letters in the New Testament, 1 Thessalonians is the first he wrote. Paul, Barnabas and Timothy had visited Thessalonica on his first missionary trip. Paul spent nearly a month with the believers before he was driven out by opposing unbelievers. He writes this letter to the believers he had left behind. “Grace” and “peace” were Paul’s customary, meaningful greetings.
REFLECT
As you follow this study of 1 Thessalonians, you will see what Paul had taught the believers in less than a month. Be aware of how much you can take in when your heart and mind are open to learn about God’s Word, the Bible.
RESPOND
Hopefully you have a friend you can lead through this study. You can be of help to someone younger in the faith as you think about this important book of the Bible and fellowship together. Read Acts 17:1-4 to learn about Paul’s first visit to Thessalonica.
