1 Thessalonians 2:1-3
1 You yourselves know, dear brothers and sisters, that our visit to you was not a failure. 2 You know how badly we had been treated at Philippi just before we came to you and how much we suffered there. Yet our God gave us the courage to declare his Good News to you boldly, in spite of great opposition. 3 So you can see we were not preaching with any deceit or impure motives or trickery.
When Paul had come to Thessalonica, he and Silas had just come from the beating they had received in Philippi. Yet God gave courage to present the gospel to the Thessalonians, just as they did in Philippi and had suffered because of doing so. He reminded them now of the opposition they experienced in Thessalonica and was driven from the city. Their courage in spite of opposition revealed they were not preaching from any intent to deceive.
REFLECT
Have you been emboldened to speak the gospel to others in spite of the opposition you have or might experience?
RESPOND
Read Acts 16:22-31 that tells about the experience of Paul and Silas in Philippi. This passage also reveals the simple message of salvation they gave the Philippian jailer.
