READ
1 Thessalonians 2:14
14 And then, dear brothers and sisters, you suffered persecution from your own countrymen. In this way, you imitated the believers in God’s churches in Judea who, because of their belief in Christ Jesus, suffered from their own people, the Jews.
The believers in Thessalonica had suffered for believing in the gospel of salvation, just as Jewish believers had in Judea, whose capital was Jerusalem. Paul made the parallel that both the Thessalonians and the Jews had suffered because of the opposition of their own people. Notice the persecution came not because of political viewpoints but because of “belief in Christ Jesus.”
REFLECT
Make sure when you are differing with family and friends it is over something important. It should be about the Lord Jesus Christ and biblical values. The Bible gives you the support of the Word of God, not human opinions.
RESPOND
Talk with your friend about when to make something an important issue and when to disregard it. For the believer in Jesus, nothing could be more important than the gospel and what the Bible says about the way believers should think and live.
