READ
1 Thessalonians 4:1-2
1 Finally, dear brothers and sisters, we urge you in the name of the Lord Jesus to live in a way that pleases God, as we have taught you. You live this way already, and we encourage you to do so even more. 2 For you remember what we taught you by the authority of the Lord Jesus.
Paul was not only concerned about what the Thessalonian followers of Christ believed but also how they lived. He wanted them to do so in a way that pleased God. Apparently they had been on the right path of doing this, but Paul encouraged them to do it even more. He reminded them that this was what they were taught by the authority of Jesus when he was with them previously.
REFLECT
It is important that you not only believe what the Bible says but also that you are living those truths in your daily life. Do others see this in you? The victorious Christian life involves knowing what the Bible says and living accordingly.
RESPOND
In Paul’s letters he not only provided proper doctrine—what one should believe—but also instructions about how the Christ-follower should live. Read Ephesians 4:1-4 to see that, after using half of his letter for proper teaching, he appealed to them to live worthy of their calling.
