READ
1 Thessalonians 4:14
14 For since we believe that Jesus died and was raised to life again, we also believe that when Jesus returns, God will bring back with him the believers who have died.
Paul referred to those who believe in the resurrection of Jesus. For those people they can know that believers who have died have gone to be with Jesus. When Jesus returns in the air He will bring them back with Him. Some believe in soul sleep—that when a person dies his soul sleeps in the grave until the resurrection from the dead. Not so. If that were true they couldn’t be brought back with Jesus.
REFLECT
Think about the comfort it gives to know this about believers who have died. They have gone to be with the Lord, and He will bring them back with Him when He comes to catch up believers to meet Him in the air.
RESPOND
Talk with your disciple about loved ones who have passed away believing in Jesus as Savior. Be thankful that they are now with the Lord, not lying unconscious in the grave. Only their earthly remains are there. Read 2 Corinthians 5:8 and Philippians 1:19-21 to see that Paul knew for the believer those absent from the body are present with Jesus.
