READ
1 Thessalonians 5:4-6
4 But you aren’t in the dark about these things, dear brothers and sisters, and you won’t be surprised when the day of the Lord comes like a thief. 5 For you are all children of the light and of the day; we don’t belong to darkness and night. 6 So be on your guard, not asleep like the others. Stay alert and be clearheaded.
The Old Testament tells of the Messiah’s return to earth in such passages as Zechariah 14:1-5. Apparently Paul assumed the Thessalonian believers would know this. The rapture of the Church, mentioned in 1 Thessalonians 4, however, was not known in the Old Testament. The Day of the Lord would start unexpectedly because it would begin after the rapture of the church and no one knows when that will occur.
REFLECT
Even though it is not known the time when believers will be caught up to meet Jesus in the air, are you ready if that should occur in your lifetime? What about if you pass away before that time? You can be ready by having placed your trust in Jesus as your Savior.
RESPOND
Read passages that tell about the Lord’s return to the earth, known as His Second coming in passages such as Zechariah 14:1-9 and Revelation 19:11-16.
