READ
1 Timothy 1:5-6
5 The purpose of my instruction is that all believers would be filled with love that comes from a pure heart, a clear conscience, and genuine faith. 6 But some people have missed this whole point. They have turned away from these things and spend their time in meaningless discussions.
Paul gave the reasons for his instructions to Timothy. Paul wanted believers to 1) be filled with love from a pure heart; 2) have a clear conscience; and 3) have a genuine faith. These desires were not accomplished by those who had turned away from proper teaching to meaningless discussions. They were those who would rather debate the unknown than the known.
REFLECT
How is it with you in what Paul desired? Is it your desire to love God and others? Do you have a clear conscience or is something bothering you that needs to be confessed?
RESPOND
Teach your disciple the importance of not being drawn away into discussing the unknown when witnessing for Jesus. Some have so many questions that, had God answered them all, the Bible would have to be in several volumes. Stick to what the Bible says because that is what is known with certainty.
