READ
1 Timothy 1:10-11
10 The law is for people who are sexually immoral, or who practice homosexuality, or are slave traders, liars, promise breakers, or who do anything else that contradicts the wholesome teaching 11 that comes from the glorious Good News entrusted to me by our blessed God.
Paul went into more detail to show what was the rightful use of the law, and for whom it was intended. The law was contrary to the wholesome teaching. The Greek word underlying “wholesome” is the one from which “hygiene” comes. It is healthful teaching. This kind of teaching comes from the Gospel that had been entrusted to Paul, as well as to other apostles.
REFLECT
As you read about the Old Testament law, does it make you thankful for salvation that comes by grace through faith in the Lord Jesus Christ? It should because no one except the Lord Jesus Himself could perfectly keep the Mosaic law.
RESPOND
Talk with your disciple about what Paul wrote about the new life in Christ not being judged by keeping the law. You can see this in Colossians 2:16-17. According to common Jewish count there were 613 commandments in the Old Testament. See what James 2:10 says about those who break even one.
