READ
1 Timothy 5:24-25
24 Remember, the sins of some people are obvious, leading them to certain judgment. But there are others whose sins will not be revealed until later. 25 In the same way, the good deeds of some people are obvious. And the good deeds done in secret will someday come to light.
Having instructed Timothy about caution in selecting church leaders in verse 22, Paul then gave personal instructions to Timothy about his stomach problems. Now Paul seemed to return with giving reasons for what he said in verse 22 about appointing church leaders. One should not be quick to decide who is the kind of person who is qualified for leadership. Also, one should not be quick to decide who is not qualified for leadership. Over time the truth about those considered will come out.
REFLECT
Has it been helpful to you not to judge a person too quickly? First impressions are important but they can be wrong. Guard against that.
RESPOND
Talk to a fellow member of your local church about the need to take time in making decisions about leadership roles. Pray that those who seem unqualified at present may show their true qualities later. Read together 1 Timothy 3:10 to be reminded of what Paul cautioned about selecting deacons.
