READ
1 Timothy 6:1-2
1 All slaves should show full respect for their masters so they will not bring shame on the name of God and his teaching. 2 If the masters are believers, that is no excuse for being disrespectful. Those slaves should work all the harder because their efforts are helping other believers who are well loved. Teach these things, Timothy, and encourage everyone to obey them.
Paul gives instructions about the conduct of Christian slaves and Christian masters. During the time of the Roman empire many captured people were reduced to slavery. In the modern world, the employee/employer relationship would apply. Timothy was encouraged to teach Paul’s instructions and encourage everyone to obey them.
REFLECT
How is it with you in an employee/employer relationship? Are you living out the Christian life so it will be evident to others by your work ethic and supervision of others?
RESPOND
Timothy was leading the group in Ephesus. Read Ephesians 6:5-9 to see what Paul wrote in his letter to the church group about slaves and masters.
