READ
1 Timothy 2:8
8 In every place of worship, I want men to pray with holy hands lifted up to God, free from anger and controversy.
The Greek language had two words for “man” or “men.” One was anthrōpos that could refer to both men and women. The other word was anēr that referred to men only. This is the one used here for those who led in prayer in the public assembly. Notice the qualifications these men needed to have: a life pleasing to God without anger or a disputing spirit.
REFLECT
Think about the great responsibility of the men leading in public prayer in Christian assemblies. Paul will write more about the qualifications of leaders in 1 Timothy 3.
RESPOND
Pray for the men in your church group who have the responsibility Paul wrote about here. Think of those who should aspire to such leadership and pray for them.
