READ
1 Timothy 2:9-10
9 And I want women to be modest in their appearance. They should wear decent and appropriate clothing and not draw attention to themselves by the way they fix their hair or by wearing gold or pearls or expensive clothes. 10 For women who claim to be devoted to God should make themselves attractive by the good things they do.
In contrast to their Roman immoral culture, Paul wanted Christian women to be distinguished by their character and not by their attention-getting appearance. This included the way they fixed their hair; plus, clothing, dress and ornaments. A godly woman is one who seeks to draw attention to God by her attitude and behavior rather than by her appearance. This is not a reason to neglect one’s appearance but a caution against using appearance to get attention.
REFLECT
Christian mothers can model this in their homes so their daughters will grow up to love the Lord and follow the same pattern.
RESPOND
With your friend, read 1 Peter 3:3-4 to see similar comments to what Paul wrote to what the apostle Peter wrote. Thank the Lord for godly women who wish to draw attention to the Lord rather than to themselves.
