READ
1 Timothy 3:6-7
6 A church leader must not be a new believer, because he might become proud, and the devil would cause him to fall. 7 Also, people outside the church must speak well of him so that he will not be disgraced and fall into the devil’s trap.
Why would Paul say an overseer should not be a new believer? Some new believers think believers agree on everything and then become discouraged on learning believers can sometimes disagree with each other. A new believer might also be proud of his position which could cause him to stumble in his faith. Notice that people outside the church are to speak well of him.
