READ
1 Timothy 4:8-9
8 “Physical training is good, but training for godliness is much better, promising benefits in this life and in the life to come.” 9 This is a trustworthy saying, and everyone should accept it.
In the western world, much time and many resources are spent on developing physical fitness. Paul does not condemn physical training, but he points out it is only beneficial for this present world. It ends when a person leaves this life. On the other hand, godliness not only benefits for this life but also for the life to come. This is a “trustworthy saying;” that is, it can be counted on as being true.
REFLECT
How is your balance between physical training for this life and godliness that benefits for this life and the life beyond the grave?
RESPOND
Talk with a fellow Christian about what you can do to have better physical fitness, and what you can do to have more spiritual fitness. Set small measurable goals for each.
