READ
1 Timothy 4:11-12
11 Teach these things and insist that everyone learn them. 12 Don’t let anyone think less of you because you are young. Be an example to all believers in what you say, in the way you live, in your love, your faith, and your purity.
Paul wanted Timothy not only to teach biblical truths but also to “insist that everyone learn them.” Paul did not want Timothy to be apologetic for his youth around older people. In spite of his youth, he could be an example to “all believers.” Note the areas that Paul mentioned how Timothy should do this: “in what you say, in the way you live, in your love, your faith, and your purity.”
REFLECT
Think on these five ways of being an example to believers. How are you doing in each of these areas?
RESPOND
For other instructions from Paul about how believers should live, read Ephesians 5:15-20. With a fellow believer, think on this Bible passage. Ask God to enable you to do better with what Paul instructed Timothy and what Paul told the believers in Ephesus.
