READ
1 Timothy 5:11-13
11 The younger widows should not be on the list, because their physical desires will overpower their devotion to Christ and they will want to remarry. 12 Then they would be guilty of breaking their previous pledge. 13 And if they are on the list, they will learn to be lazy and will spend their time gossiping from house to house, meddling in other people’s business and talking about things they shouldn’t.
There is nothing wrong for younger widows wishing to remarry. Paul’s concern is about those who are more concerned about physical desires than spiritual desires. If they are put on the list for support from the local church, this may only permit them to have more time to get involved in other people’s lives rather than being concerned about their own and the need to be pleasing to Jesus.
REFLECT
Give some thought to Paul’s instructions. Notice the importance of not getting involved in other people’s business. The difference would be if you are asked for counsel rather than just trying to learn what is going on in another person’s life.
RESPOND
Read the five verses in Psalm 15 to see what David said people should do who want to honor the Lord. Also read Ephesians 5:1-2 for the need to imitate God in everything.
