READ
2 Peter 1:1
1 This letter is from Simon Peter, a slave and apostle of Jesus Christ. I am writing to you who share the same precious faith we have. This faith was given to you because of the justice and fairness of Jesus Christ, our God and Savior.
Typical of the letters at that time, 2 Peter begins with the author’s name and his credentials. He is a “slave”; that is, he is a “bound one” to Jesus because of his love for Him. Peter is also an “apostle” of Jesus. This refers to being a representative of Jesus. He writes to those sharing the same precious faith in the Lord Jesus. Because of the righteousness of Jesus this faith was given to them.
REFLECT
Are you also bound to Jesus like a slave because of your love for Him?
RESPOND
Read the Scriptures with a friend and learn who the 12 apostles were. See Matthew 10:1-4 for a listing of them. Notice that Peter is mentioned first. See Mark 3:13-15 for their responsibility.
